In April 2026, Superstudio will launch a new and game-changing format for Milan Design Week 2026. This isn’t just an update – it’s a full transformation. With strong roots in Milan’s creative DNA and more than twenty years of cultural leadership, Superstudio is reimagining how we experience design. The mission is clear: quality, international scope, and forward-looking vision are the core values driving this new chapter.

For the first time, Superstudio will expand across three separate locations, each with its own identity and purpose: Superstudio Più in Tortona, Superstudio Maxi in Barona, and the brand-new Superstudio Village in Bovisa. This three-part approach offers a diverse, immersive, and multidimensional experience. Each space will feature its own curatorial direction, yet all will speak the same design language that defines the Superstudio brand.

A brief history of Milan Superstudio

Superstudio, the renowned Milan location, was founded by Gisella Borioli and Flavio Lucchini, pioneers in Italian fashion, publishing, and design culture. Their goal was to create spaces where creativity could go beyond traditional boundaries.

It began in 1983 with Superstudio 13 – an innovative hub for fashion photography and communication in southern Milan. It quickly became a go-to place for photographers, designers, and global brands. With high-end studios and full production support, Superstudio 13 helped reshape how fashion and visual storytelling were done in Milan and beyond.

In 2000, the founders opened Superstudio Più in Via Tortona, transforming another former industrial complex into a multidisciplinary cultural center. It welcomed art, design, fashion, and innovation – and soon became the heart of the Fuorisalone (Milan Design Week). Designers who couldn’t join the official Salone del Mobile finally had a platform for bold ideas, helping to create what is now the Tortona Design District.

Over time, Superstudio Più turned into a major venue for global events, exhibitions, and experimental formats. It has kept its curatorial strength, hosting leading names in design, technology, and contemporary art.

Milan Design Week April 2026: three locations, three destinies

Superstudio Più, the historic base in the Tortona District, stays a beacon for international design. It will host major installations, standalone pavilions, and an in-house curated project. While the area has faced fragmentation in recent years, efforts are in motion to rebuild synergy and reestablish Tortona as a global design hub.

Superstudio Maxi, located in the rising Barona district, will explore the connection between design, art, and architecture. It will serve as a platform for cross-cultural exchange and multidisciplinary creativity – opening up a part of the city long out from the Fuorisalone map.

Superstudio Village in Bovisa is the boldest step. Set in a revitalized industrial space near Parco La Goccia, it will focus entirely on young designers, research studios, and experimental projects. With extended hours and social zones, this space will function as a true design village – fresh, open, and highly collaborative.

A connected system

To make the Milan Design Week 2026 experience seamless, Superstudio will launch a unified registration system. A single QR code will provide access to all three venues. A dedicated transfer service is also being developed to connect the locations and invite other design players to join the network. The goal is to streamline logistics, reduce waiting times, and boost cooperation. This goes beyond Superstudio – it’s a step toward building a trusted, system-wide alliance.

Looking back to move forward

This transformation has deep roots. In 2000, Borioli and Lucchini turned a derelict factory into Superstudio Più, giving rise to the Fuorisalone movement. They gave visibility to emerging talents and planted the seeds of the Tortona Design District.

Now, Superstudio returns to that pioneering spirit. Despite a complex global context – marked by conflict and economic shifts – the company stays optimistic. Investing in new spaces like Bovisa is not only a strategic move but also a heartfelt commitment to Milan’s creative future.
