SUMMARY:Anchorage Design Week
DESCRIPTION:Anchorage Design Week 2025: celebrating creativity\, sustainability\, and community\nOrganized by the Anchorage Museum in collaboration with numerous community partners\, Anchorage Design Week is an annual gathering of creative minds dedicated to fostering and inspiring place-based design. It serves as a platform to reimagine the future of our city and the evolving lifeways of Northern regions. Through thought-provoking visuals\, interactive interventions\, engaging workshops\, and meaningful conversations\, Design Week invites community members and creatives to explore how design can play a pivotal role in shaping positive and inclusive futures.\nAnchorage Design Week debuted in 2016 as Anchorage Design Weekend; the 2025 edition takes place from February 20 t0 23.  \n \nIn 2025\, our focus turns toward the power of sustainable materials and practices—examining how they can foster inclusivity\, strengthen communities\, and challenge designers to elevate their work\, whether in branding\, architecture\, or urban planning. We invite participants to push creative boundaries while addressing pressing global challenges through innovative and thoughtful design solutions. \nAs we celebrate what makes Alaska distinct\, we look forward to reconnecting with our community – while shaking off a little cabin fever – as Anchorage Design Week once again coincides with the vibrant Anchorage Fur Rendezvous festivities in late February 2025. This unique timing provides a special opportunity to merge tradition with innovation\, highlighting the intersection of culture\, history\, and forward-thinking design. \n \nCommunity events and collaborations\nAnchorage Design Week is made possible through strong partnerships with Alaska Design Forum and AIGA Alaska\, bringing together creative professionals\, thought leaders\, and engaged community members. As a proud member of World Design Weeks\, we align with a global movement that fosters meaningful dialogue around design’s impact on society and the environment. \nOne of this year’s key community projects is the Reconnecting Fairview initiative\, which offers a deep dive into the histories\, people\, and places that shape the East Downtown Fairview area. This initiative supports a community-led revitalization effort\, known as the Fairview Greenway project\, which aims to reimagine and enhance neighborhood spaces for future generations.  \n  \n\n\nAs part of this effort\, we are excited to welcome fourth-year architecture students from the University of Texas at Arlington\, who will conduct fieldwork and develop speculative concepts focused on community food spaces\, ecotourism and innovation hubs\, and health and wellness centers in Fairview. During this engaging neighborhood tour\, participants will have the opportunity to help document spaces\, contribute their perspectives\, and share ideas that could help shape the future of this vibrant community. \nAnchorage Design Week 2025 key event: Inform Conference 2025\nAnchorage Design Week proudly presents Inform 2025\, an immersive conference that centers around the theme of Equity\, Empathy\, and Connections\, with a particular emphasis on Urban Design and Raising People Up. This dynamic event will feature: \n\nInspiring keynote speakers\nContinuing Education (CEU) presentations\nInsightful panel discussions\nA showcase lunch hour\, where vendors can present innovative products and materials to members of the design community\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned professional\, an artist\, a community leader\, or a student\, Inform 2025 offers a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts\, spark new ideas\, and build meaningful connections. This is your chance to gain valuable insights\, expand your network\, and explore the latest advancements in design. \nThere’s a fee to attend to the conference.  \n \nSpecial guest presentation: Carson Chan of MoMA\nAs part of Anchorage Design Week 2025\, we are thrilled to host a special guest presentation by Carson Chan\, Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)\, in partnership with the Alaska Design Forum. \nCarson Chan serves as the inaugural Director of the Emilio Ambasz Institute for the Joint Study of the Built and Natural Environment\, where he leads groundbreaking research initiatives that examine the intersection of architecture\, urbanism\, and ecological sustainability. His work at MoMA spans exhibitions\, public lectures\, conferences\, seminars\, and publications\, all aimed at advancing innovative approaches to design within the context of environmental and social challenges. \nThis special presentation is a rare opportunity to hear from one of the leading voices in contemporary architecture and design\, providing invaluable insights into the ways design can bridge the built and natural environments to create a more sustainable future. \nWith an exciting lineup of conferences\, workshops\, community events\, and guest speakers\, Anchorage Design Week 2025 is set to be an inspiring and impactful gathering. Join us as we explore the future of design\, celebrate creativity\, and connect with our community in ways that make a lasting difference. \nWhy visit \nAnchorage Design Week is an unparalleled opportunity to be part of a global conversation on design and its role in shaping communities.  \nIn Anchorage\, you can experience Alaska’s unique winter landscape & creative energy.  Moreover\, you can be inspired by cutting-edge design & innovation. SUMMARY:Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Stockholm Furniture Fair began in 1952 as a showcase of Scandinavian design. From 1951 to the present\, in more than seventy years\, the Stockholm Furniture Light Fair has gone from being a local furniture fair to a world-renowned event. And exhibitors have adapted\, becoming increasingly international\, as have visitors. \nThe next edition takes place February 4-8\, 2025. \n \nStages of evolution\n1950s\nIn 1951\, the first furniture presentation took place in S:t Eriksmässan. Before long\, Scandinavian manufacturers were also presenting at the new furniture fair\, Svenska möbelmässan\, in Stockholm. \n1960s\nThe Fair already had about 300 exhibitors. The products on display were mainly residential furniture\, objects and accessories. \n1970s\nIn 1970\, S:t Eriksmässan moved to a new location in Älvsjö\, and after a couple of years\, changed its name to Stockholmsmässan. The furniture fair debuted at the new location in 1971. \n1980s\nStudents from Konstfack (Stockholm University of Arts\, Crafts\, and Design) made their debut\, and furniture for public spaces increased their presence at the Fair. In the mid-1980s\, the exhibition space reached 45\,000 square meters; today\, it has grown to 70\,000 square meters. \nFarming Architects at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024 \nThe Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair \n1990s\nIn 1995\, for the first time\, the Northern Light Fair ran in parallel with the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Furniture for public spaces occupied an increasing amount of space\, and the Fair became a leader in Scandinavia. \n2002\nIn 2002\, the Stockholm Design Week was started to complement the Fair. Thus\, the second week of February became the most important week of the year for Scandinavian design. \n2003\nIt was the year of the first Greenhouse\, the arena for emerging designers and design schools. In Greenhouse\, there are prototypes of young people seeking manufacturers on show. \n2004\nIn 2004\, the Stockholm Furniture Fair invited an internationally acclaimed designer to create a lounge in the Entrance Hall for the first time. From 2004 onward\, each year\, the Stockholm Design Fair invited a different designer as a Guest of Honor. \n2010s\nIn 2010\, the Fair redesigned Hall A\, and the size of the fair increased. International presence has been expanding year by year. \n2014\nIn conjunction with the Fair\, the Stockholm Design Talks have been launched. The lectures are attended by various figures who excel in design and architecture. \nDiscover Formafantasma at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024 \nReading Room by Formafantasma at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024 \nStockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2025\nAfter a forced three-year hiatus due to the pandemic\, the Stockholm Furniture Fair returned to full capacity in 2023. In the meantime\, it also adopted a new name\, Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. In 2023\, the Fair invited Sweden’s first guest of honor\, the design studio Front. The Guest of Honor 2024 was Formafantasma\, and the Guest of Honor 2025 is Faye Toogood. Also\, in 2023\, it debuted the new Älvsjö Gård platform\, which showcases limited-edition experimental design. In 2024 and 2025 the programme includes also Green House\, the international platform for up-and-coming designers at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Also in 2025\, is coming back the design Bar\, designed by Emma Olbers and All Matter Studio.  \nWhy visit\nThe Stockholm Furniture Fair is Scandinavia’s most important furniture and design fair. In addition to exhibiting products\, the Fair features a rich program of talks. Its various cultural programs and lectures make it an ideal platform for professional development. The new concept\, The Nude Edition\, allows for enriching education in booth design. The Greenhouse platform also makes it possible to learn about trends among young designers and in schools. \nStockholm Furniture & Light Fair\, February 4-8\, 2025\nStockholm Furniture Fair is for professionals; on last day\, Saturday february 10\, is open to the public\nSize: 270 exhibitors\, over 18\,000 visitors in 2024 \nVisit StockholmFurnitureFair website for more info

SUMMARY:Design Miami\, December 2024
DESCRIPTION:Design Miami 2024 is back for the 20th edition at Pride Park in Miami\, from December 4 – 8\, 2024\, with Preview Day on December 3. The curator of this year’s edition\, Glenn Adamson\, who just curated an exhibition dedicated to Nike at Vitra Design Museum\, chose Blue Sky as the leading theme for 2024. Forty-five world-leading galleries present contemporary and historical highlights demonstrating the power of a ‘blue sky thinking’ approach to design – past\, present\, and future. \nDesign Miami brief history\nIn 2005\, entrepreneur Craig Robins and gallerist Ambra Medda founded Design Miami following the renovation of the Miami Design District\, transformed into one of the world’s most important centers for design\, fashion\, food\, and art. During the following years\, Design Miami set up Design Miami.Basel\, and\, in recent years\, Design Miami.Paris\, Design Miami.LA.\nIn October of 2023\, Basic.Space announced the acquisition of Design Miami. Jesse Lee\, the CEO and Founder of Basic.Space\, is now the chairman of the Design Miami board\, with Jennifer Roberts remaining as CEO. \nDiscover Design Miami.Paris 2024 \n \nDesign Miami 2024: Under a Blue Sky\nThe Blue Sky theme invites diverse engagement from exhibitors\, underpinned by a commitment to design that exceeds expectations through bold leaps of imagination\, thoughtful material innovation\, and a respect for the natural world that houses us all under one\, shared sky. Under this shared theme\, we can identify several key thematic threads. \nTaking a ‘blue sky thinking’ approach\, the theme celebrates design as a fundamentally optimistic human activity\, giving way to radical invention through conceptual and material innovation. \nThe Future Perfect (New York) reflects on the curatorial theme Blue Sky through a curated presentation of almost 100 new works from over 20 artists and designers\, including Anina Major\, Laurids Gallée\, Olivia Cognet\, Vikram Goyal\, and Sophie Lou Jacobsen. The exhibition space continues exploring bifurcation\, leveraging the concept of day and night occurring under a singular sky. \nOne-half of the booth will showcase works from a myriad of emerging and established artists\, including the likes of Chris Wolston\, Floris Wubben\, Jane Yang-D’Haene\, John Hogan\, Lindsey Adelman\, and Thompson Street Studio. This constellation of objects comprises pieces made especially for the fair alongside works that feel familiar in origin\, but represent massive leaps in skill and practice. The second side will center on New Delhi-based designer Vikram Goyal\, who is making his United States debut at Design Miami. Trained as an engineer\, Goyal’s work utilizes artisanal techniques apparent in the rich legacy of Indian craft\, to create modern and contemporary designs. \nLiving with Design: the bedroom\nThe theme also focuses on the many ways design offers insight into our living habits. Sarah Myerscough Gallery (London) will delve into the forms and dimensions of the bedroom space. The curated exhibition showcases a collection of works from designers and artists\, all centered around furnishing a bedroom. \nHighlights include an Ethereal bed and accompanying side tables by distinguished designer Marc Fish\, whose creative process focuses on material research. Tadeas Podracky\, an experimental designer based in the Czech Republic\, contributes a striking mirror – evocative of the opulent aesthetics of Rococo design. Complementing these pieces\, there’s a monumental cleft wardrobe by Peter Marigold and Tadanori Tozawa\, introducing an architectural presence to the space. Additionally\, several specially commissioned works by a diverse array of designers – including the likes of Gareth Neal\, Lin Fanglu\, Diana Scherer\, and Nic Webb – enrich the bedroom space with craftsmanship and artistic vision\, inviting viewers to reconsider the significance of their own personal sanctuaries. \nThe living room\nLamb Gallery (London) debuts in the fair’s Curio program\, presenting an immersive environment welcoming visitors into a living room setting. The Magnetic Midnight Maison exhibition unveils Lucía Echavarría’s newest capsule collection. Exploring Echavarría’s anthology of Colombian craft\, and drawing inspiration from Miami’s surrounding coastal palette and Art Deco design cues\, the furniture collection blends traditional Colombian artistry with a current Miami flair. \nDiscover Design Miami.Basel 2024 \nThe Magnetic Maison\, collection by Lucía Achavarría from Lamb Gallery \nArt design from Ukraine\nUkrainian artist\, Victoria Yakusha (Antwerp) returns to the Design Miami Curio program in 2024 to present her new collection\, Grun. Yakusha’s latest collection explores the extraordinary land of Ukrainian Polissia – home to boundless forests\, dense carpets of soft moss\, and sleepy swamps. When creating the collection\, Yakusha was inspired to create a series of works that transcend mere functionality\, to evoke an emotional response and an authentic connection to the natural world. Each design presents a unique geometry that mirrors its natural inspiration\, while dark green upholstery evokes moss-covered forest hills and features beaded details reminiscent of morning dew. \nGrun armchair by Victoria Yakusha \nFrom Italy: a Gaetano Pesce special edition with Meritalia\nIn this year’s Curio program\, Meritalia (Milan) presents the exhibition Le Edizioni del Pesce. The gallery spotlights one of the great Italian design masters\, Gaetano Pesce\, to pay homage to his creativity and ongoing creative partnership with the brand. A thread throughout previous editions of Design Miami\, Meritalia connects Gaetano’s impression in the United States with his roots in Italian design\, presenting a range of items – from umbrella racks and coat hangers to mirrors and lamps\, all showcasing his unparalleled skill in manipulating unusual materials. \nUnder One Sky: A Global Outlook\nThe theme also draws on the concept of our global community living under one sky\, with galleries from around the globe coming together at Design Miami to spotlight artistic voices worldwide.\nBased in Mumbai\, æquō Gallery (Mumbai) highlights a unique blend of India’s traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design to present a curated selection of pieces all speaking to new explorations\, narratives\, and design dialogues. This year’s presentation will feature works by Frédéric Imbert\, Valériane Lazard\, and Florence Louisy\, amongst others. Each piece embodies æquō’s philosophy: a balanced collaboration where the designer and artisan share equal prominence. Focusing on contemporary Japanese artists\, Ippodo Gallery (New York) similarly focuses on traditional materials or mediums such as ceramic\, metal\, and wood to trace the journey of recursive design\, engineering\, and prototyping over the years. \nNew Voices at Design Miami 2024\nA stage for emerging talent\, this year’s fair will introduce an array of emerging designers and debut exhibitors including BOCCARA GALLERY\, Dobrinka Salzman\, Donzella\, Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert\, JCRD Design\, and Theoreme Editions within the Gallery program. Making their debut within the Curio program includes 1882 LTD\, Anna Karlin\, blunk space\, Lamb Gallery\, Meritalia\, Mouvements Modernes\, Nader Gammas\, NUOVA\, Roham Shamekh\, and a group presentation by Tanya Singer\, Errol Evans\, Chris Nicholson\, and Trent Jansen; and within the Special Projects program are Alexis Cogul\, Mathieu Lehanneur (designer of the Olympic Torch and the Olympic Cauldron for Paris Olympics 2024)\, R & Company x Haas Brothers\, The Spaceless Gallery\, and Basic.Space Shop. \nWhy visit\nDesign Miami connects the world through extraordinary collectible design\, with live fairs that bring together galleries\, designers\, brands\, experts\, collectors\, and enthusiasts. Each edition of Design Miami features museum-quality 20th and 21st-century furniture\, lighting\, and objets d’art from the world’s top galleries. Moreover\, it showcases immersive design collaborations with celebrated brands. Design Miami’s flagship fairs take place alongside Art Basel in Miami\, Florida\, each December\, in Basel\, Switzerland\, each June\, in Paris\, France\, each October in conjunction with Art Basel Paris\, and in Los Angeles in Spring. \nDesign Miami\, December 4-8\, 2024\nFor professionals and general public\, admission ticket\nSize: one venue\, over 40 galleries\, around 30\,000 visitors\nVisit DesignMiami.com for info \nSome images from Design Miami 2023

SUMMARY:Dubai Design Week 2024
DESCRIPTION:Dubai Design Week is the largest design festival in the Middle East\, taking place since 2015. It aims to promote the region’s talents through design. \nLike many design weeks around the world\, Dubai Design Week includes installations\, exhibitions\, lectures\, workshops\, a marketplace\, and the leading contemporary design fair\, Downtown Design. Dubai Design Week is under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum\, Chairman of Dubai Culture\, in collaboration with Dubai Design District (d3)\, and with the support of Dubai Culture. \nDiscover Milan Design Week 2024 \n2023\, Dubai Design Week  \nDubai Design Week 2024: tenth edition\nThe tenth edition is from November 5th to 10th\, 2024\, in the Dubai Design District (d3). Dubai Design Week 2024 underscores its decade-long cultural and economic impact on the $26 billion GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) design industry (Interior and Furniture Market). Its “seniority” also makes it the leading design event in the Middle East. The 2024 edition features over 500 well-known or emerging designers\, brands and creative leaders from over 40 countries. \nDiscover Bangkok Design Week 2024 \n2023\, Dubai Design Week  \nFueled by the rapid urbanization and diversification of the economy\, with the rapidly growing population of tourists and residents\, Dubai Design Week has evolved since 2015 to become a major international design event. Its success comes from many factors. Undoubtedly\, support for local talent has played an important role\, helping to develop a platform for local and international design. \nHighlights at Dubai Design Week 2024\nOne of the main event of this edition is Downtown Design\, the Middle East’s premier design fair\, taking place November 6th to 9th on the d3 Waterfront Terrace. \nAlso in 2024 takes place Editions\, the region’s first limited edition art and design fair. Editions hosts more than 50 galleries\, collectives\, and design studios. \nDowntown Design 2021 \nThe Urban Commissions competition\nDubai Design Week’s annual design competition\, Urban Commissions\, returns this year with the theme “Tawila\,” which means “table” in Arabic. The competition invites designers and architects to explore the table beyond its form as a facilitator of common exchanges and experiences. The winner for 2024 is Altqadum\, an architecture and interior design firm from Oman. Inspired by the musical culture of the Gulf\, where communities traditionally gather around and accompany musicians\, TukTuKDum is an innovative table encouraging interaction with the audience. \nThe Abwab program\nAbwab\, which means “doors” in Arabic\, is a program that supports designers in the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region. Each year\, Abwab commissions installations or pavilions dedicated to relevant global and regional contexts. Since 2015\, more than 180 designers from countries such as Algeria\, Bahrain\, Egypt\, India\, Iraq\, Jordan\, Kuwait\, Lebanon\, Morocco\, Pakistan\, Palestine\, Saudi Arabia\, Tunisia\, and the United Arab Emirates have participated in Abwab. For the 2024 edition\, professionals were invited to propose projects on vernacular architecture. The project also explores how architecture using local materials and techniques can interact with new environments. \nDiscover the Clerkenwell Design Week in London \nAbwab 2018 \nAs part of the Abwab program\, the public will see more than 30 projects exploring ancient technologies\, innovation\, and materials. Dubai-based architecture and interior design firm Bone will present a pavilion by prefabricated earth blocks\, created in collaboration with Fetdeterra\, a Spanish company specializing in clay architecture. Japanese architecture firm Mitsubishi Jisho Design invites the public to experience a traditional teahouse made from 3D-printed waste sawdust. Multidisciplinary technology studio DEOND\, founded by Ross Lovegrove and Ila Colombo\, explores the notion of phytotherapy\, with a “second skin” fabric infused with artificial intelligence that responds to the body’s mood. In addition to these\, other installations come from various organic and recycled materials\, including banana fiber\, soy wax\, henna\, Himalayan salt\, terracotta\, and scrap metal. \nWorkshops\, talks\, and master classes\nThe Dubai Design Week workshop program is open to all disciplines of design. The program is run by a range of facilitators\, including lecturers\, designers\, independent makers\, and cultural organizations. \nDubai Design Week also offers a Marketplace on November 9 and 10. The marketplace\, which offers handcrafted products\, is located in the heart of Dubai Design District (d3). \nThe Dubai Design District (d3)\nThe Dubai Design District (d3) is a global creative ecosystem dedicated to design\, fashion\, architecture\, and art. Located in the heart of Dubai\, d3 is a commercial district that houses multi-brand stores\, art galleries\, and showrooms\, as well as architectural and interior design studios. Various events\, such as Dubai Design Week\, Arab Fashion Week\, and Sole DXB\, are part of the Dubai Design District. \nSome of the region’s most popular events take place in d3 and attract international artists and audiences for events such as Dubai Design Week\, Arab Fashion Week\, and Sole DXB. The district also regularly hosts a number of industry conferences\, workshops\, and educational programs for people of all ages. \nWhy Visit\nDubai Design Week is an opportunity to see Dubai up close in a somewhat out-of-the-ordinary guise\, and to understand the exciting path taken by the UAE. Investment in design\, in fact\, carries out research in innovation projected into the future\, alongside the rediscovery of local materials and traditions. Design therefore expresses the desire to rediscover one’s roots\, with objects bearing a solid identity. Local products manage to create emotional bonds\, which foreign design hardly builds. Between Public Projects and Downtown Dubai\, and from this year also Editions\, Dubai Design Week is thus a comprehensive platform\, to follow the evolution of design in this area of the world. \nDubai Design Week\, November 5-10\, 2024\nFor professional and general public\nLocation: Dubai Design District (d3)\nSize: over 500 exhibitors\, 200\,000 visitors\nVisit website DubaiDesignWeek.ae for more info \nSome images from Dubai Design Week 2021\, 2022 and 2023

Photo Timothy Doyon \nThe Legacy of Modernism\nThis year’s gallery program also pays homage to the profound legacy of Modernism. Galerie Patrick Seguin (Paris) presents the legacy of French Modernism through a curated collection of 20th-century collectible masterpieces by designers including Jean Prouvé\, Le Corbusier\, and Jean Royère. The striking dialogue with the classical interiors of L’hôtel de Maisons speaks to French design’s rich history and evolution.  \nMeanwhile\, Galerie Downtown-Laffanour (Paris) places 20th-century French masterpieces in conversation with 21st-century icons. A thoughtful selection of works by French luminaries Charlotte Perriand\, Jean Prouvé\, and Serge Mouille is presented alongside visionary works by Ron Arad\, Choi Byung Hoon\, and Ettore Sottsass.  \nDesign Miami.Paris Design at Large Highlights\nThis year’s Paris fair also offers an extensive Design at Large program. It includes rare and significant works presented across the courtyard\, interior and gardens of L’hôtel de Maisons. It was originally built in 1946 in Prouvé’s home village\, Carnac. The house was designed with easy assembly and dismantling in mind\, intended to house his family. The only remaining building with Prouve’s signature character intact\, the house references a rich historical dimension. \nThe Carnac House\, by Jean Prouvé for Galerie Dowtown LAFFANOUR \nSalon 94 Design (New York) presents two editions of Rick Owens’s Tomb Chair.
