SUMMARY:Amman Design Week 2026: Accumulations Marks the Comeback
DESCRIPTION:After almost seven years of silence\, Amman Design Week 2026 is back with the fourth edition. From 2 to 17 October\, the Jordanian capital opens up its studios\, galleries and old stone houses to designers\, students and the public once again. The fourth edition picks up where the 2019 one left off\, and its theme\, Accumulations\, speaks directly to everything that has been building up in the meantime.\n \nAmman Design Week\, October 2-17\, 2026\nSize: over 220 designers\, more than 60 spaces\nLocations: Various venues across five districts: Ras El Ain\, Jabal Al Lweibdeh\, Jabal Amma\, Iraq Al Amir\, Aqaba\nTickets: Free admission\, registration required for some specific events\nOpening hours: Opening hours vary by specific venue\, exhibition\, and event\, with most main installations and open houses operating daily between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM \nMore info at Amman Design Week 2026  website \nDiscover Dubai Design Week 2025 \nThe Hangar Exhibition\, 2019. Three editions followed\, in 2016\, 2017 and 2019\, the last one running from 4 to 12 October 2019. Together they drew 89\,000 visitors\, more than 160 exhibitors and 52 participating spaces\, figures that turned the event into a reference point for design in the region. \nThose editions brought local\, regional and international designers to Amman and kept everything free and open to all: large curated exhibitions\, student and community programs\, workshops\, talks and cultural events across the city. \nWhat sets Amman apart is how the team sees itself. It describes the project less as an event and more as a curatorial platform\, with learning programs\, commissions and mentorship running all year round. The design week is the moment when all this work goes public\, and from now on it will take place every two years. \nThe choice of the “Design Week” name was deliberate as well. It links Amman to the global network of design weeks\, while the focus stays on building a creative movement with a clear social value. \nThe Hangar Exhibition\, 2016 \nAccumulations: The Theme of Amman Design Week 2026\nDesign themes often stay vague. Accumulations does not. The organizers see accumulation not as a pile of things\, but as the slow coming together of experience\, material and history\, a process that people shape together rather than alone. \nIn Jordan\, they argue\, the line between tradition and innovation is thin. Accumulating therefore means negotiating: between past and future\, between scarcity and possibility\, between what people inherit and what they make. \nThe theme also ties back to the long pause. In the organizers’ words\, the six years since the last edition were years in which creative energy\, social change and untapped resources kept stacking up. From here\, Accumulations questions the usual idea of wealth and points instead to human ingenuity\, cooperation\, heritage\, the vision of a new generation and the land itself\, with its layered ecologies where human\, animal and plant life meet. \nFor those working in architecture and interiors\, this is a theme about process and materials rather than polished finished objects.\n \nThe Crafts District\, Amman Design Week 2019 \nFifty Venues Across Amman and Jordan\nAmman Design Week takes place in over 50 venues spread across Ras El Ain\, Jabal Al Lweibdeh\, Jabal Amman\, Iraq al Amir and Aqaba\, with most events in the capital and fringe activities in other Jordanian cities. \nAmong the new entries\, Darat Abu Adnan stands out. It joins the design week for the first time this year and opens one of the few heritage homes still standing in Jabal Al Lweibdeh. Contemporary design set inside historic architecture is one of the strongest draws of this edition. \nOver the years\, the program has grown around a few main pillars: the Hangar Exhibition\, the Crafts District\, the Student Exhibition\, children’s programs\, urban interventions\, workshops and talks\, and a strand on culture and food.\n \nThe Student Exhibition\, 2019. Photo Edward Summer\, courtesy Amman Design Week \nWorkshops Ahead of Amman Design Week 2026\nMuch of the hands-on work happens in the run-up to the event. Francisco Regalado of LAAA (Laboratorio de Arte\, Arquitectura y Arqueología) is leading a two-week intensive workshop on the studio’s approach to rebuilding heritage\, which brings together close research\, digital technology and experimental fabrication. In a city with so many historical layers\, the fit with the theme is clear. \nTracing Amman takes a different path: an analogue photowalk and image-making workshop led by Leen Alfatafta and Lina Khalid of Darkroom Amman\, together with Hannin Alnimri of makāna. Participants have also met at CPF Makerspace to try out the digital fabrication tools available for their projects. \nA Strong Program for Young Designers\nThe student mentorship program is one of the most interesting parts of this edition. It received 203 applications from more than 88 universities\, institutions and high schools across Jordan. The team selected 37 projects by 47 students\, who will now design\, develop and produce a new original piece that may go on show at Amman Design Week 2026. \nFor anyone travelling to the Middle East this autumn\, or simply following the international design calendar\, Amman is well worth keeping in mind. After years of quiet accumulation\, the city has a lot to show. \nWhy visit\n\nAmman Design Week offers something rare on the international calendar: contemporary design shown inside heritage homes and historic neighbourhoods\, free and open to all. It is also a chance to discover new voices from Jordan and the Middle East\, well before they reach the major European design fairs.  \n\nAmman Design Week\, October 2-17\, 2026\nSize: over 220 designers\, more than 60 spaces\nLocations: Various venues across five districts: Ras El Ain\, Jabal Al Lweibdeh\, Jabal Amma\, Iraq Al Amir\, Aqaba\nTickets: Free admission\, registration required for some specific events\nOpening hours: Opening hours vary by specific venue\, exhibition\, and event\, with most main installations and open houses operating daily between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM \nMore info on Amman Design Week 2026  website \nSome images from the past editions \n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n  \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Barcelona Design Week 2026: PRO-TEST and the Value of the Prototype
DESCRIPTION:Before a project turns into an object\, a space or a service\, it goes through a stage of trials\, fixes and open questions. This stage is usually hidden behind the final result. Barcelona Design Week 2026 brings it out into the open\, looking at design as a process that experiments\, checks and turns an idea into something that can really find a place in people’s lives. \nFrom 14 to 25 October 2026\, Barcelona hosts the 21st edition of Barcelona Design Week under the theme PRO-TEST: Prototyping and Testing\, curated by Alessandro Manetti. The edition also links up with Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture\, connecting design\, space and new ways of picturing the future. \nDiscover Madrid Design Week 2026\n \nKave\, main sponsor of Barcelona Design Week 2026 \nFrom Project to Prototype\nPRO-TEST shifts the focus from the result to the path that leads to it. The theme builds on two key stages of the design process: prototyping and testing. These are the moments when an idea moves beyond the abstract and starts to deal with real materials\, uses\, needs and people. \nA prototype is not yet a final answer. It helps put an idea to the test\, find out what works\, spot what needs rethinking and open up new possibilities. Seen this way\, the prototype is not just a step towards an end product but a tool to explore and learn. Designing means making assumptions\, checking them against reality and accepting that every proposal can change. \n \nPRO-TEST: Experimenting to Build Alternatives\nThe name also plays on a second reading. “Pro” points to what moves forward\, proposes\, promotes and provokes; “test” stands for trial\, experiment and comparison. Together they suggest protest as a form of proposal\, a way of facing uncertainty not only through criticism but by building visible\, tangible alternatives that stay open to change. \nDesign becomes a way to respond to today’s challenges with solutions that people can see\, discuss and improve\, without claiming to have the final word. As the organisers put it\, BDW 2026 looks at design as a practice able to turn questions into processes\, intuitions into prototypes and alternatives into evidence.\n \nService Design Disrupted\, main sponsor at Barcelona Design Week 2026 \nA Design Week Spread Across the City\nOver eleven days\, Barcelona Design Week 2026 lays out a programme of activities\, exhibitions\, installations\, talks and experiences in different venues across Barcelona. It brings together professionals\, companies\, schools\, institutions and the wider public. \nThe programme also includes OFF BDW\, associated venues and events built together with the local creative community\, linking studios\, schools\, companies\, designers and institutions. The city becomes a kind of lab where visitors can see not only finished products but also ideas still taking shape and design processes open to debate. \nBarcelona as a Lab for New Futures\nThis approach carries extra weight in 2026\, thanks to the dialogue with the World Capital of Architecture. Design and architecture share many of the same questions: how to make spaces more liveable\, how to keep up with social and environmental change\, and how to turn complex needs into real solutions. \nBarcelona Design Week invites visitors to look at these challenges starting from the process. Before building the future\, it has to be imagined\, drawn\, tested and\, when needed\, changed. This space between idea and reality is where Barcelona chooses to place design in 2026.\n \nWMF\, main sponsor at Barcelona Design Week 2026 \nWho Is Behind Barcelona Design Week\nSet up in 2006\, Barcelona Design Week is led and organised by the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation\, promoted by Barcelona City Council and Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub)\, in collaboration with FAD Fostering Arts and Design. It is one of the city’s main creative events and a key date on the international design calendar. \nIts goal is to bring design closer to citizens and to every part of the economy\, connect professionals\, companies\, institutions and the creative community\, and show Barcelona’s creative energy to the world. BDW is also a member of World Design Weeks\, the Barcelona-based network that brings together more than 40 design and creativity events worldwide. \nThe visual identity of the 2026 edition is by the studio Abuela\, which gives shape to the journey from idea to prototype\, from prototype to test\, and from test to real change. \nWhy visit\nBarcelona Design Week 2026 offers a rare look behind the finished product\, showing how ideas are tested\, questioned and improved before they reach people’s lives. Across eleven days and many venues\, it brings together professionals\, companies\, schools and the public\, making it a good chance to meet the local creative community and pick up new ideas. With the added link to the World Capital of Architecture\, this edition is also a timely stop for anyone interested in where design and architecture meet.\n \n \nBarcelona Design Week 2026\, 14-25\, October\, 2026\nSize: over 67\,000 visitors\, more than 130 activities\nLocations: different venues\nAdmission: free\nOpening hours: each event sets its own opening hours\nFor info: Barcelonadesignweek.com website
