Heimtextil Frankfurt: a leading fair

Heimtextil is one of the most important trade fairs in upholstery textiles and interior design. In addition to upholstery textiles, manufacturers of carpets, household linens, technical textiles, and fabric technologies are exhibited at Heimtextil.
Before the pandemic, Heimtextil reached about 2,700 exhibitors and exceeded 67,000 visitors in some editions. It is an international fair, confirmed by exhibitors from more than 59 countries. Visitors also come from all over the world, from 129 countries. The audience is the vast majority of professionals, and decision-makers are more than 60 percent. Nearly 30 percent of the operators include small retailers, large chains, large-scale retail, and e-commerce; 21 percent are distributors. 13 percent are interior designers, architects, and Horeca representatives. Finally, 12 percent are industry representatives.

Frankfurt: a long tradition in trade fairs

Organized by Messe Frankfurt, Heimtextil is in the first half of January in the halls of Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt. Before Heimtextil, home textiles were part of the Frankfurt Spring Fair. Between the 1960s and 1970s, the expansion of the market segment led to an independent fair. The first edition in 1971 attracted more than 600 exhibitors from 26 countries. Since then, the number of exhibitors has grown to 2,658 from 62 countries, in 2013. Heimtextil continues a very long tradition of fairs in Frankfurt; the first Frankfurt Autumn Fair was established as a regular fair as early as 1240.

The Frankfurt show is not just a product exhibition; it is also an information hub. In each edition, Heimtextil published a booklet and exhibition featuring emerging trends. To cater to young talent, Heimtextil also organizes the Heimtextil University Contest. Each year, students from design universities worldwide, have an opportunity to present their latest and most unusual projects and have them evaluated by a panel of experts.

Heimtextil is one of the world’s leading trade fairs in interior design textiles. It’s the first tradeshow of the year, and from here emerge the trends that drive the projects of designers and interior designers, both in the residential and Horeca sectors.
The exhibitors, in fact, are not only manufacturers of upholstery fabrics and carpets but also companies specializing in technologies. Technology in fabric production plays an increasingly important role.
Sustainability requires recyclable fabrics, and increasingly less polluting manufacturing processes. Bio-engineered fabrics can be more sustainable, as they come from natural proteins. In addition, bio-engineering allows for more biodegradable fabrics.

Heimtextil offers a broad overview of these issues, and all the latest technologies. In addition, the Heimtextil University Contest allows people to see the design ability of university students participating in the Contest and gives them global visibility.
