Design Miami Basel, the 2024 edition of the world’s leading collectible design fair, is coming back from June 11-16 in Basel. This unique event, a global authority on collectibles, brings together the most influential players in the design world, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for design enthusiasts, collectors, and professionals.
Design Miami was established in 2005 by entrepreneur and design collector Craig Robins and designer and consultant Ambra Medda. In 2000, Robins collaborated on the evolution of the Miami Design District, which had been undergoing a transformation for a few years. This transformation led the district to become one of the world’s leading centers for innovative design. From this collaboration came the idea of Design Miami.

The destination for design collectors
It was a successful idea, as seen over time. Today, in fact, Design Miami takes place in different editions and cities around the world. The first edition, in Miami, in December 2005, was followed by Design Miami Basel in June 2006, a natural evolution parallel to the double edition of Art Basel and Art Basel Miami. Then came Paris, in October 2023, with Design Miami Paris, and finally, in May 2024, Design Miami LA, in Los Angeles.

The resonance of the various reviews confirms the success of the Design Miami collection fairs. The 2023 edition of Design Miami, the nineteenth, featured more than 50 galleries and curatorial projects, several special projects, and tremendous commercial success. Design Miami Basel in June 2023, the seventeenth edition, saw the participation of 26 international galleries, with several special projects, and similar commercial success. In addition to these are Design Miami Paris and Los Angeles, and two “licensed” editions, in collaboration with Made in House, Design Miami Podium x Shanghai, in 2022 and 2023.
Why visit
Design Miami is the forerunner of collectible design fairs, established in 2005, inspired by Milan Fuorisalone. In fact, it was initially a rib of Art Basel, one of the world’s most influential and highly rated art fairs. Although it has grown in importance, it has remained a small-scale fair for collectible design enthusiasts and experts, but primarily for big-spender collectors. In fact, the fair’s surroundings include a corollary of exclusive parties and celebrities from all over the world.
