The Swiss Design Days are, above all, a festival that celebrates the creative and productive dimensions of design through a pluralistic and transdisciplinary approach. The goal is to give professionals and enthusiasts a platform where industry players can showcase their work. Designers, publishers, manufacturers, artisans, galleries, schools, and foundations come together to share their values with the public in a welcoming and convivial atmosphere. The event offers a rich and diverse program featuring exhibitions, events, workshops, conferences, and installations.

The Swiss creativity and expertise

For several years now, the event spotlighted Swiss creativity and expertise, thanks to the strong presence of local designers and manufacturers. As a unique platform, Design Days have become the leading ambassadors of Swiss design across the French-speaking regions.

For 16 years, the design festival championed a plural and transdisciplinary vision of design. Every year, the festival brings together emerging talents and seasoned professionals through installations, exhibitions, debates, and conferences held in unusual and unconventional locations – abandoned factories, old cinemas, hotels, and in 2024, a disused section of a train station.

2024 Edition

After several itinerant editions, the event set up base at a new, central, and unique venue. The 15th edition unfolded at La Rasude, an exceptional site located within Lausanne’s train station, and hosted 63 designers – both emerging and established. The event showcased furniture, lighting, robotics, and new technologies, along with innovative projects, prototypes, and limited or serial editions, including designs aimed at seniors. The Swiss Fashion Point curated a selection of 21 young talents in fashion, jewelry, and accessories.

The Design Dinners – immersive gastronomic experiences held on the rails – sold out completely. These dinners enchanted both eyes and palates by blending design and fine cuisine in a memorable, sensory fusion.

2023 Edition

From 16 to 25 November, the 14th edition took participants on an urban journey through Geneva, linking various neighborhoods and cultural axes. The event brought together around 30 venues and about 50 designers. By weaving together design culture and showcasing the emerging Swiss scene, Design Days affirmed their status as a key event for promoting the creative force of design to both professionals and the general public.

With a spirit of openness and sharing, the Swiss event aimed to build a strong design community, raise awareness of design as a creative discipline, and highlight its economic impact. The program included festive events, meetings, conferences, roundtables, and seminars, enriching the experience for all participants.

2020 Edition

Despite the cancellation of several major events, the 12th edition of the festival adapted to health restrictions and went ahead in a new format. From 5 to 15 November 2020, boutiques, showrooms, and workshops in Lausanne and the surrounding region hosted selected installations by designers. This kaleidoscope of micro-exhibitions supported local businesses, designers, artists, and craftsmen.

In small, safe group settings, visitors explored contemporary Swiss creations across 24 venues in Lausanne and nearby areas. The only downside: the Signature room at Lausanne Palace and the USM Design Grant X ECAL installation at Flon remained closed to the public.

2019 Edition

The year 2019 featured two editions of Design Days. The spring edition, held as part of the Habitat-Jardin fair in Lausanne, focused on interior decor with inspiration spaces and personalized design advice. From 26 to 29 September, Design Days returned to the Pavillon Sicli in Geneva to highlight both emerging and established design labels. The program included conferences, exhibitions, and installations.

This 11th edition featured over 50 exhibitors, 40 young creators, student projects, new publishers, and the best of Swiss design. In partnership with HEAD – Geneva and Swiss Fashion Point, the event spotlighted the energy and diversity of the national design scene.

2018 Edition

In 2018, the design festival celebrated their 10th anniversary with a special edition. The main platform for design-related meetings and exchanges in French-speaking Switzerland set up at Expo Beaulieu Lausanne, joining forces with the Habitat-Jardin fair. These two home-focused events combined to offer visitors a richer, more varied, qualitative, and accessible experience.

The spotlight shone on Swiss creativity, with young multi-talented designers, student projects supported by the USM Foundation through the USM Design Grant, and highly popular personalized decor consultations. The “Flair” trend debriefs, high-tech exhibitions, and innovative product showcases – thanks to the presence of the Swiss Design Prize – added further depth to the program.

Swiss Design Awards 2018

2017 Edition

The 9th edition welcomed both professionals and the general public into the warm and inviting space of the Pavillon Sicli in Geneva. This edition served as a vibrant showcase for contemporary and forward-looking design.

Visitors – over 8,000 – were captivated by the diversity of creative worlds, fresh innovations, and the 100% Swiss design labels presented. The USM Foundation awarded its first-ever CHF 25,000 USM Design Grant to a HEAD – Geneva student. Under the guidance of Albert Schrurs, students in an interior architecture workshop imagined the future of workplaces, homes, and living environments.

The event also renewed its partnership with Swiss Fashion Point and welcomed over 30 fashion exhibitors, covering clothing, accessories, and jewelry.

2016 Edition

The 8th edition in Renens at the former Mayer & Soutter workshops and marked a new milestone. By welcoming German-speaking Swiss companies for the first time, the French-speaking event took a step toward national recognition, solidifying its status as a respected platform throughout Switzerland.

Despite a challenging market, the edition delivered a rich and diverse offering. Around 70 labels, showrooms, publishers, young designers, and stylists presented a wide and representative cross-section of the design market. A major highlight: fashion made its debut at the event, thanks to Swiss Fashion Point and its 25 participating fashion designers specializing in clothing, accessories, and jewelry.
