From September 10th to 13th, the 29th China International Furniture Expo, better known as Furniture China, returns to Shanghai. Until 2018, China National Furniture Association and UBM, an entity organising B2B events worldwide, organized Furniture China. In 2018, Informa Markets acquired UBM, so since 2018, Furniture China has been organized by China National Furniture Association and Shanghai Sinoexpo Informa Markets International Exhibition Co. Over the years, Furniture China has grown to become a comprehensive platform for furniture manufacturers in China, with a trade show, international export, and online and offline B2B2P2C platform.

The next edition, Furniture China September 2024, takes place at SNIEC (Shanghai New International Exhibition Center) and hosts about 3,000 exhibitors worldwide. In an exhibition area of 350,000 square meters, Furniture China expects 200,000 trade professionals worldwide. These include retailers, manufacturers, designers, journalists, and bloggers. 

Exhibitors of Furniture China come from 26 countries and regions. Five international pavilions have confirmed their participation: France, Belgium, Singapore, Malaysia and Turkey. New exhibitors account for about 20 percent of the total, bringing many innovations in design, materials, and business strategies.

Maison Shanghai: the décor

Along with Furniture China, Maison Shanghai, the contemporary lifestyle trade show, takes place at SWEECC (Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center). The formula of Maison Shanghai is thematic exhibitions + events. Thus, the exhibitions cover a wide range of China furniture design, lifestyle brands, including designer furniture, decorations, carpets, lighting, arts and crafts, outdoor furniture, and more. The thematic pavilions are: Maison Essential, which exhibits Lifestyle Design Brands, Crafts, Lamps, Carpets, Aromatherapy, Decorative Paintings, Floral, Fabric & Tabletop Products. Youngers Play hosts Design in China, Aesthetics of Modern Life, Fashion, Customized Lifestyle, Art. Design of Designers (DOD) is the area dedicated to emerging young designers. Finally, The Lifestyle Show (Autumn), exhibits Pet Fashion Design, Trendy Lifestyle, Gifts and Coffee.

Materials set the stage for high-end production

Also, at SNIEC, along with Furniture China, there is FMC China (Furniture Manufacturing & Supply), the area with machines and components, and FMC Premium, the section dedicated to materials. FMC China 2024 hosts more than 800 furniture supplier from China, showcasing smart manufacturing and technologies. Many leading China furniture manufacturers specializing in wood, lumber, fabric, leather, furniture hardware, upholstery components, panels, and surface decoration will exhibit alongside well-known brands and international associations. The event strives to promote a comprehensive update of the Chinese and global furniture industry chain, from eco-friendly materials to innovative exhibits.

A rich program of keynote speakers and forums

Furniture China 2024, together with many strategic partners and media, hosts more than 40 forums and talks. Forums and speeches cover topics of great interest, such as business model innovation, sales channel development, and marketing innovation. Moreover, experts will talk about lifestyles, innovation in technology and materials, trends in design, sustainability and supply chains. More than 200 global and cross-sector furniture industry experts will gather to share knowledge, and provide a clearer understanding of market and industry trends. 

Furniture China 2024 and Maison Shanghai Awards

Furniture China and Maison Shanghai award six prizes. They are the Gold Idea Design Award, China Home Product Innovation Competition, China Home Material Innovation Competition, Genie Award – Aesthetics Space Design Competition, Green Building Award, and Exhibitor Honor Award. These competitions invite more than 30 world-renowned designers, academics and experts from industry associations as judges. The criteria to grant the awards are innovation in materials, craftsmanship, and technology. During the fair, all the award-winning products are on display, to illustrate future directions of new design with new materials, artisans, and aesthetics.

A night & day event

For the first time, the two Shanghai design trade shows will also hold several activities in the evening hours, both at SNIEC and SWECC. Evening events, dedicated to networking, include Designers’ Night, Buyers’ Night and Global Buyers’ Night. The events will also host award ceremonies for designers, brands, and buyers. By creating an “immersive” social environment with exclusive events, the fair will offer a complete social experience without leaving the venues. During the exhibitions, it will be possible to learn about industry trends, do business negotiations, and network, all in the same venues.
