The first edition of Passagen without imm cologne aims to emphasize the importance of Cologne as a Design City. Passagen Interior Design Week Köln, January 10-16, transforms Cologne into a citywide celebration of design. Rather than being confined to a single venue, the event unfolds across approximately 150 exhibitions scattered throughout neighborhoods and various locations.
Since 1990, Passagen has been an annual exhibition and event program showcasing cutting-edge design and future trends throughout Cologne. In 2025, it will once again inaugurate the international design year, aligning with prominent festivals, trade fairs, and events. The program is made possible with the support of Köln Business Wirtschaftsförderung / City of Cologne as its main sponsor.

Machwerkhaus Köln: A Model for Sustainability and Circularity
A centerpiece of Passagen 2025, the Machwerkhaus Köln showcases the intersection of design and urban production. Exhibitors here prioritize circular design, presenting furniture built for durability, simple disassembly, and effective recycling. By utilizing sustainable resources such as FSC-certified wood and recycled textiles, Machwerkhaus sets a benchmark for eco-friendly manufacturing. For buyers, exploring these innovations offers a pathway to future-proofing their product lines, aligning with increasing consumer demand for responsible sourcing. In 2025, at Passagen Interior Design Week Cologne, Machwerkschau presents furniture by Sabine Bockemühl, color schemes and interior concepts by Paula-Lucia Brüggen and Kolorat, furniture sculptures by Jacqueline Lobodda, accessories and home textiles by Sanja Lulei, bags and accessories by Monolar, beautiful things from Plastikfabrik, upcycled furniture by reditum, handmade furniture by Tischlerei Sommer.

Why visit
To experience the design atmosphere in Cologne. Cologne was the first city to invent the “Fuorisalone,” with spectacular events along the Rhine River. These included the Visiona exhibitions, curated by Verner Panton and Joe Colombo, in the early 1970s.
Today, the exhibitions are smaller, but Passagen is still a chance to discover alternative parts of Cologne, as well as upcoming design.
