MIFF – Malaysian International Furniture Fair, celebrates its 30th anniversary with the 2024 edition. Established in 1995 by Tan Chin Huat, who is still chairman of the fair today, MIFF has grown over the years into an ever-larger event, now occupying two fair venues. MIFF’s 600 or so exhibitors, in fact, are divided between WTCKL (World Trade Center Kuala Lumpur) and MITEC (Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Center).

MIFF – Malaysian International Furniture Fair History
In 2012, UBM (United Business Media), one of the world’s largest trade show organizers, acquired MIFF, thus accelerating its development. To get an idea of the evolution, in 2011 MIFF occupied 30,000 square meters of exhibition space in one location, with 450 exhibitors. In 2015, MIFF began expanding with the opening of the new MITEC exhibition center; in 2019, UBM changed its name to Informa Markets. The exhibition space of MIFF 2024 will be 100,000 square meters, with 673 exhibitors.

Today, MIFF is the largest B2B furniture fair in Malaysia and Southeast Asia and aims to become the largest as well. Among MIFF’s strategic partners, the Muar Furniture Association (MFA) holds a prominent role. In fact, the Association occupies an entire pavilion at MITEC Level 1. Confirming the importance of MIFF as a leading trade fair in Southeast Asia, exhibitors come mainly from Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

Highlights
Among MIFF’s highlights for buyers is the Valued Visitor Program, which offers free hotels to new buyers who visit MIFF for the first time.
In addition to the trade show, MIFF is a platform to showcase young designers and product innovation. The showcase dedicated to young designers, xOrdinary, hosts projects by young designers and start-ups. On the other hand, the MIFF Furniture Design Competition (FDC) awards the best products from the competition, established in 2010. For the 2024 edition, the MIFF Furniture Design Competition theme is “Chair-volution.”

Not only young designers: exhibiting companies can also compete to win two awards, the Best Presentation Award and the Furniture Excellence Award. As the name suggests, the awards go to the best products and the best booths.
