UN:FOLD: next125 and Ankon Mitra at Milan Design Week 2026
When the world of precision German engineering meets the ancient, fluid art of paper folding, the result is nothing short of breathtaking. This April, during Milan Design Week, at Superstudio Più 2026, the premium kitchen brand next125 is set to unveil its latest collaboration: UN:FOLD, a site-specific installation by acclaimed Indian architect and sculptor Ankon Mitra.
Located in the heart of the Tortona District at Superstudio Più, this installation is more than just a showcase. It’s a physical manifesto of “Oritecture” – a fusion of origami and architecture that challenges our perception of space and material.

The Vision of ‘Oritecture’: where origami meets architecture
Ankon Mitra, a graduate of the prestigious Bartlett Faculty at UCL, has dedicated his career to the “universe forming and dissolving through acts of folding.” His philosophy, Oritecture, explores how a single surface can be transformed into complex, structural forms without losing its integrity.
For the UN:FOLD installation, Mitra has moved away from paper to work with folded aluminium. This choice of material creates a bridge between the industrial precision of next125 kitchens and the organic beauty of natural forms.
Key Features of the UN:FOLD Installation
- Dimensions: A massive 8 × 8 meter circular structure
- Dynamic Lighting: The individual aluminium components are designed to catch and reflect incoming light, creating an ever-shifting “dialogue of light and shadow”
- Scale and Presence: With heights reaching up to four metres, the installation offers a sense of visual dynamism and lifelike movement
- The Seamless Kitchen: Integrated within this sculptural frame is a next125 kitchen, demonstrating how high-end design can blend into an artistic atmosphere without “taking centre stage”
next125: Bauhaus values in a modern grid
As the international premium brand of Schüller, next125 has long been synonymous with the Bauhaus movement’s principles: blending craftsmanship, technology, and design.
The name “next125” itself refers to a 125mm metric grid, a system that ensures perfect ergonomics and aesthetic symmetry. By collaborating with Ankon Mitra, the brand proves that even the most rigid industrial standards can be part of a fluid, creative transformation.
