Mathieu Lehanneur, Designer of the Year: a multidisciplinary talent
Lehanneur, born in 1974, is renowned worldwide for his work and his talent for combining art, design, science, and technology. A designer who embraces different fields of creativity. His approach is multidisciplinary. Thus, he ranges from products to architecture, from artworks to handcrafted one-of-a-kind pieces to cutting-edge technological works.
Through his eponymous brand, Mathieu Lehanneur produces and distributes his creations worldwide.
In 2023, Mathieu Lehanneur opened his new studio, an old electricity station in Ivry sur Seine. The Factory, as he calls it, is a place of experimentation and production, a red brick building that, in 800 square meters, houses the Mathieu Lehanneur brand headquarters. It’s home to workshops, an exhibition space and, of course, the design studio. In 2024, Lehnanneur has also scheduled the opening of a new studio in New York.

TECH EDEN, the January 2024 Maison & Objet theme
Says Mathieu Lehanneur: “TECH EDEN is a very challenging theme. TECH EDEN is an oxymoron, inviting us to go back to our roots, but combining nature and technology. The idea is to forget any hypothetical dominion over nature and to build the basis for a new collaboration between humans and the environment.

Outonomy, the installation for Maison & Objet 2024, is thus an ecosystem of minimal and optimal life. The history of civilization and architecture is littered with solutions and proposals for an isolated dwelling: the igloo, the cabin, the hut or the yurt.
The challenge is to combine our needs with current technologies. This is not a nostalgic idea or an attempt to return to the past; on the contrary, Outonomy wants to answer the question: what do I really need?
