Light + Building Trends 2024/25 highlights pioneering approaches in luminaire design. It also spotlights current production methods, materials, and the strength of traditional craftsmanship.

The designers have defined three main trends that they predict will influence colors, shapes, and materials in 2024/25. The trends are Welcome Tomorrow, Embrace Simplicity, and Create Uniqueness.

Welcome Tomorrow

Welcome Tomorrow presents a synthesis of magic, ingenuity, vision, and sensuality, which advanced technologies make possible. The Welcome Tomorrow’s pioneering designs offer a fascinating vision of a world in which natural phenomena, magical lighting effects, mesmerizing design, and supernatural elements merge into a mesmerizing whole.

Embrace Simplicity

Embrace Simplicity focuses on pleasing and calming designs. The trend emphasizes the essentiality of materials. The design is clear, authentic, aesthetically pleasing, sustainable, functional, and emotional.

Create Uniqueness

In the Create Uniqueness trend, the extraordinary and the incomparable are transformed into an eclectic mix of multifaceted designs, each with a distinctly unique character. Here, craftsmanship goes hand in hand with free expression, and the stimulating dialogue between industry and craftsmanship gives rise to designs of unmistakable originality.

Designplus Award

During the 2024 edition of Light + Building in Frankfurt, the winners of the Designplus Award by Light + Building were announced. Of over a hundred participants, the Prize awarded eleven for design innovation. The award ceremony took place on the first day of Light + Building at the Design Plaza.

An independent jury, which included industry experts Amandus Samsøe Sattler (ensømble studio architektur, president DGNB e.V.), Annika Egloff-Schoenen (managing director, Fachverlag Dr. H. Arnold GmbH), Katja Winkelmann (owner of Licht 01, Lighting Design), Ulrike Brandi (managing director Ulrike Brandi Licht), and Stylepark (magazine and platform for architecture and design) selected the projects in two stages. Both nominated and winning products are on display in an exhibition in the foyer of Hall 5.1 for the duration of Light + Building until March 8.

The nominations, covering all Light + Building product groups, showcase the broad spectrum of innovations in the industry.

There are four award categories: Light + Creation PLUS, Sustainability + Efficiency PLUS, Smart + Connectivity PLUS, and the new Sustainable Exhibition Stand category. Five winners in this category demonstrate the possibility of sustainable stands. With the introduction of this category, Messe Frankfurt underscores its support for sustainable events.
